Home journey
Tue 03 Oct 2017Although they are not staying away from home, the Year 6 children who have remained in school have been having great fun this week as well.
On Monday they went to the cinema for their own private viewing of Captain Underpants (where they were allowed to sit in the cspecial comfy seats!) followed by some great British bake off style biscuit making! On Tuesday they headed to Greenwich for a cable car ride and an a visit to the Nissan innovation centre at the O2. More excitement is planned for the remainder of the week, so they will all have new experiences to share with each other when they are reunited next Monday!

School Journey Day 2
Tue 03 Oct 2017Day 2 dawned bright and clear and after a good night's sleep the adventurers set off for a day walking along the cliffs. Everyone is having a fantastic time! They are eating well and enjoying the scenery - even if they are a little suspicious of the cows!
The afternoon allowed time for some fun on the beach in the sunshine. They even got to play in the sea!

Mon 02 Oct 2017This morning 37 excited Year 6s and 4 brave members of staff left for a week's adventure in Swanage.
At 12.30 they had made it as far as Winchester and had stopped for lunch! Everyone has been fantastic and a member of the public has already complimented them on their behaviour. Well done team Elfrida!
They've all settled well into the centre and made their own beds. Then it was off to the beach for some games.

Ofsted and CQC inspection of Lewisham SEND
Tue 26 Sep 2017Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will carry out jointly an inspection in Lewisham from October 2nd-6th 2017.
Under the Children and Families Act 2014, the government placed new duties on the local health, social and education services that provide for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
The inspection will evaluate how effectively Lewisham:
* identifies the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities
* meets the needs of these children and young people so that their outcomes and chances of participating fully in society improve.
For more information and a link to a webinar that you can join to share your views look at the SEND section of our website or click here

Our Gambian visitor
Mon 11 Sep 2017On Monday 11th September we welcomed Mucki and his son Yankuba to Elfrida to talk to us about life in The Gambia.
We have had a link with Mansa-Colley Bojang school for a while and this is the second time that Mucki has visited. This time he talked to the children in assembly and then spent some time with Year 5, who will soon be starting to write letters to the children in his school.
Mucki explained to us that at his school there are no computers and the children have to share one pencil between three children. We didn't realise just how lucky we are!
He also talked to us about how the children have to grow their own food for their lunch and how they look after chickens, who lay eggs that the school can sell to raise money.
Yankuba also had a great time visiting our school and loved playing football in the playground at lunchtime. He didn't want to leave!
We are hoping to use the money raised on Wheels Day to get the school a lap top or an ipad so that we can Skype them and continue to learn more about life in another country.

Elfrida Summer Fair
Fri 14 Jul 2017On Friday 14th July, we held our annual Summer Fair in the playgrounds.
The sun shone for us (despite some early morning drizzle) and the event was a huge success. The bar-be-cue was amazing, thanks to the efforts of our wonderful kitchen staff, and the smell of beautifully cooked chicken and burgers brought in the crowds. There was a dance show, organised by Brydie Gregory and Georgina Nash from Sedgehill, which certainly drew a huge audience.
The lucky dip sold out, the money tree was almost bare and there were no bottles left on the bottle tombola! The fire engine made an appearance and managed to stay for quite a while before being called away too.
A huge thank you has to go to Clare, Michelle and Iyare for their tireless efforts in organising this amazing event. In total we raised over £1000 for the school. If you would like to help the PTFA with further events please leave your name and number in the office and someone will contact you in September.

Mary Poppins came to Elfrida
Thu 13 Jul 2017This year, the Year six production was Mary Poppins. As ever the singing was outstanding, the acting amazing and the direction superb. The lead roles were all played by children who took the time and trouble to learn their lines and they all know exactly where they should be. Despite a number of scenic errors including a collapsing fireplace, and a runaway balloon, the performance was a great success. A huge well done to all of the children who took part and a big thank you to all of the staff who worked tirelessly to put it together.

London Week
Fri 30 Jun 2017The last week of June was cultural heritage week at Elfrida. This year we chose to focus on London and all of its rich history. Across the school children learnt different things about London. Year 1 learnt all about the great fire, Year 3 learnt about a day in the life of the Queen and Beech class went to visit the site of the former Crystal Palace.
There was a competition for children to make London landmarks and the week ended with an international cafe where the food literally flew off the tables!
Thank you to everyone who took part in the competition or who brought food and thank you to Miss Oke and Miss Griffiths for all of their organisation.
