After working hard to write the beginning of the story; The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, the children worked together to read and support each other to improve their written work.

Welcome to the Summer Term

It has come round so quickly, but we are here, at the beginning of the summer term!  This term, our topic is 'All things Great and Small'.

The children are already working very hard and have started learning about Ramadan and The Romans.  Please refer to the Year 4 curriculum letter to find out more about Year 4's learning for this term.

Summer Term Curriculum Letter

Science Week 14th-18th March 2022

During science week, Year 4 will be participating in two science investigations: Do taller people jump further than shorter people? and, Which sweet has the best elasticity?

Hopefully, the children will have great fun and learn a lot not only about science, but also maths with all the measuring and data handling involved in both investigations.

Which sweet has the most elasticity?

Can taller people jump further?

Book Week

For book week this year, we are reading the story 'Here we are' by Oliver Jeffers.  The book is written by the author to his new born son and it introduces the world and everything in it to a newborn.

It discusses, through beautiful illustrations; the earth, the environment, animals and people.

We all chose two books from the School Book Shop to take home and enjoy reading :)

'Here we are' human bodies.

Maths investigation

Year 4 have been working hard to investigate patterns.  They have been completing patterns, finding the 10th and even 100th pattern in a sequence and some of us even went on to find the nth term.

Science

Today Cypress class were given a challenge to see if they could build a circuit and make a lightbulb light up.  Some of them managed to light up two or three bulbs in one circuit.

Cypress Peoplescape Performance

Children in Need - Heroes day

Peoplescape Theatre

Peoplescape theatre have been working with Year 4 using different drama techniques to explore themes around migration.  It has been lovely to hear the children's stories on their or their relatives experiences of migration.

Science

In Science this week, we carried out an investigation.  Cypress class tested which material would melt a chocolate button the fastest.  We tested foil, bubble wrap, paper towels and cotton wool.  We found out that foil melted our chocolate the fastest and the cotton wool took the longest.  Cypress class wrote scientific conclusion to share their learning.
