- Continue reading for at least 20 min daily. This is your opportunity to read even more and improve rapidly. Read to yourself. Read to your siblings. Read to your parents. Read to your pets.

Hi Magnolia ,
I hope you had a lovely weekend!
As of this week the work we set will be different.
REQUIRED WORK
If you scroll down the page you will find this week’s activities which include: Reading, Writing, Maths and Topic work. I have outlined what these activities include and how they can be completed below.
Reading:
There are 2 Reading tasks below which can be completed on 2 different days.
Writing:
The writing task below can be completed over 4 days or all in 1 day. The choice is yours.
Here is my suggestion:
- Monday – Read the task. Discuss the questions on page 2 and then begin to plan using the Writing Frame on page 3.
- Tuesday – Start or continue with planning using Writing Frame.
- Wednesday – Use the plan and write the short story. Make sure you say the sentences ALOUD before writing them.
- Thursday – Check your writing. Make sure the sentences make sense! Use page 5 of the writing task to help check your work.
Maths:
I suggest that your child completes 1 page of the Maths activities below (there are 4) per day and then on one day complete the 8 arithmetic questions below and their Big Maths Challenges.
Here is my suggestion:
- Monday – Page 1 of Maths tasks.
- Tuesday – Page 2 of Maths tasks.
- Wednesday – Page 3 of Maths tasks.
- Thursday – Page 4 of Maths tasks.
- Friday – Arithmetic questions and Big Maths Challenges.
Topic:
In Year 2, the home learning topic this half-term is Under the Sea. The topic learning grid can be found below. Please aim to complete 2 of the tasks on the topic grid per week.
Please take pictures of the work you have completed and send them to our class email address, magnolia@kafed.org.uk
EXTRAS
- Once the required tasks have been completed for the day, please use your login to do some Maths, Grammar and Spelling practice on Big Maths, Lexia, Purple Mash or SumDog.
- As always make sure you read everyday!
- Please continue with the June activity calendar challenge. I know children have been really enjoying these tasks. As it is something different everyday it can help to bring excitement for the children and make the days less repetitive and boring.

It is the 1st June today; we are in a new month and halfway through 2020!!
I have a challenge for you this month…
Below you will find a June activity calendar. Each day there is an activity that you can do, so everyday complete the activity for that date.
You can keep track of it by writing it down, or if possible your parents could print the calendar and you can cross off each day. Take pictures of you completing the activities and send them to our class email address, magnolia@kafed.org.uk.
Today’s activity is to learn a cool cat fact for “Adopt a Cat Month”. Why not record yourself saying your cat fact and email it to me? I can’t wait to see all the activities you get up to!

I hope you are all well!
Tomorrow (Tuesday 18th May), was meant to be our School Sports Day which I know you all would have loved! Since we are still learning from home, Elfrida have decided that we are going to have a Stay at Home Sport’s Day! You can participate in activities and games at home with your families instead. All of the activities are available on our school website (https://www.elfridaprimary.org.uk/lockdown-sports-day/) and are linked below.
So take part in the challenges and have fun as a family!
Parents/carers, there is also an editable certificate that you can print for your child/ren.

This week, I would really like you and your parents to do the Year 2 daily lessons on BBC Bitesize - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons. Everyday they will have 3 new lessons – 1 Maths, 1 English and 1 Topic. Each lesson has a video and then some tasks. This would be a great way to keep learning!
Also, everyone should complete some of the ‘2Do’ activities on Purple Mash this week. I would love to see the work you do and have a chat with you about it on the website.
Remember, we may be at home but we should still be doing some learning and reading everyday! Make sure you do the BBC Bitesize lessons, Purple Mash activities and remember there are lots of different activity ideas that you can do at home, below.
