School Journey update
Thu 21 Jan 2016We are very happy to announce that all of the children slept well and are having an amazing time. Yesterday they all had fun in the swimming pool and then learnt to use maps on an orienteering treasure hunt. The shop also proved a hit as children treated themselves to a range of items including pens and pencils with the Arethusa logo on them to remind them of their adventure.
Today they are all ready to attempt the high ropes challenge and then get to grips with some target practise as they learn about archery.
Mr Walker was very impressed with their tidiness and both the boys and the girls scored 10/10 for room tidiness!
Home journey is also going well. The children have been working with Mr Potts today to make their animal house designs. They have been safely using saws, glue guns and drills to make their carefully designed creations. Take a look at the photos.

Year 4 School and home journey
Wed 20 Jan 2016At 9.00 this morning 27 Year 4s and 4 members of staff, braved the cold and frost to head off to Arethusa Venture Centre for 3 days of fun.
At the time of writing we have had confirmation that they have all arrived safely and entertained the staff with their bed making abilities - or lack of them!! The pictures are very funny!
The Year 4's staying at school have been treated to a visit from the Wiggly Wild show, where they held geckos, snakes, millipedes and even a hermit crab.
They have also been busy designing their own animal homes which they will start making tomorrow after Mr Leach has explained how to use all of the equipment safely.

Elf Day and Christmas Dinner
Thu 10 Dec 2015Wednesday December 9th was a very exciting day for Elfrida Primary School. Not only was it Elf day, but it was also Christmas dinner day!
During Elf day all of the children, dressed as Elves, travel to different classrooms to do activities with different teachers. (The teachers are also dressed as elves!). Children completed musical activities, created animations, ordered presents in different sizes, created cards and made paper plate snowmen, amongst many other things.
Everyone had lots of fun and the school certainly looked more glittery after the event!
While all of this was happening the kitchen staff were working hard to prepare dinner for 500 people! Everyone sat down with their class and their teachers to enjoy a traditional meal, which was delicious.
A huge thank you to everyone both in and out of the kitchen who worked so hard to make this a great day.

Green Card Rewards
Tue 08 Dec 2015Yesterday over 200 children celebrated keeping their card green with a circus workshop in the hall. The children were in groups of about 30 and learnt to juggle with scarves, spin plates, balance feathers and even walk on tightropes!
Everyone was very enthusiastic - even the teachers joined in!
Sam from Circus on Purpose came in with all of his equipment and showed that it really is worth staying on green.
More rewards will follow throughout the year for those children who make the right choices all of the time!
Congratulations to all of you who took part, for always making the right choices. Keep it up!

Winter Discos
Wed 02 Dec 2015The KS1 disco proved to be a hit on Tuesday night.
Lots of amazing dancing was spotted, even the teachers and some of the parents joined in. Ms Newton was upset not to win the dancing competition, but agreed that the children were superior dancers!
KS2 also had a fantastic disco on Wednesday night. Again there were some great dance moves spotted and smiles and laughter all round.
Thanks to the members of the PTFA who worked so hard to organise these and the DJ for his excellent music!

Official Saplings Opening
Mon 26 Oct 2015On Thursday 22nd October we celebrated the official opening of our nursery, Saplings.
We held two events and invited a range of people who have supported the nursery, been instrumental in its opening, who work in it or who attend it!
Councillor Till attended the first event, cutting the ribbon with the help of the children and declaring us open! Lots of children who attend the nursery as well as their brothers and sisters enjoyed the party too!
The governors as well as local childcare providers attended the second event, Ms Newton and Mrs Wong both spoke briefly and the ribbon was again cut, this time by Leah from year 1, whose Mum works in the nursery.
We had an amazing cake to celebrate the event and it was a lovely chance to thank everyone who has worked so hard to turn our dream of an Elfrida nursery into reality.

The Peace Mosaic
Thu 22 Oct 2015Elfrida have been working with the charity For Jimmy for sometime now. This charity was set up in memory of Lewisham teenager Jimmy Mizzen who was sadly stabbed and killed in 2008.
The charity have worked with our Year 4 and 5 children to travel with them on a journey for peace. As part of the programme, they ran sessions over two terms, looking at how they could develop character, confidence, leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills in the young people.
This half term For Jimmy are taking part in the WHY? festival at the Southbank centre. Throughout WHY? Festival, the charity For Jimmy is creating a large artwork on the windows of the Riverside Terrace Cafe with school groups and members of the public. It will be called The Peace Mosaic.
The Peace Mosaic is made up of around a hundred Perspex acrylic sheets placed along the length of Royal Festival Hall. It will grow as hundreds of young people and members of the public add their handprints to represent their hopes for peace and safety in their own neighbourhoods.
