Mon 19 Oct 2015 Karen Cartwright

On 19th October Miss Cartwright, Ms Cancilla and 4 children from years 4-6 took all of the harvest donations to the food bank in Forest Hill.  We had to weigh all of our donations and then sort them all out into the correct boxes and shelves.

The lady there was very impressed with the generosity of our pupils.  Together we had collected 284kg of food.  This is enough to feed 30 people.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated food for our Harvest celebration, the local community really benefit

  • Phonics workshop

Wed 07 Oct 2015 Karen Cartwright

On Wednesday 7th October Mrs Reynolds and Miss Gregory ran a workshop for parents in the hall to explain how we teach reading and phonics to our children.

The event was really well attended and parents took away sets of phonics flashcards so that they could practise the letter sounds with their children.

If you want more information about phonics as well as a video that will help you to say the sounds correctly please click here.

If you would like further information about phonics or early reading please talk to Mrs Reynolds, Miss Gregory, Mrs Marshall, Miss Cartwright or your child's class teacher.

  • Harvest Assembly

Fri 02 Oct 2015 Karen Cartwright

Friday 2nd October saw us celebrate Harvest with two wonderful assemblies.

First the children from Nursery to Year 2 shared things they had been learning.  Reception and Nursery children sang a great song about a combine harvester, while year 1 shared their learning about foods that we grow in England.  Reverend Singh then spoke to us all before we sang a rousing chorus of Cauliflowers Fluffy - always a crowd pleaser!  Year 2 children entertained us with a great performance of Farmer Duck before we finished off with a harvest samba song.

The children from Years 3 to 6 also had an assembly.  Again we sang the favourite - Cauliflowers fluffy before year 5 performed some great harvest poems.  The play on words like peas and peace and let us and lettuce were very clever!  Reverend Singh again spoke and then a group of year 6 children used PowerPoint to effectively inform us about the meaning of Harvest.  The celebrations were brought to a close with another rendition of the harvest samba.

A huge well done to all of our performers, a big thank you to everyone for their donations of food and a massive thank you to Miss Edwards for organising such a great event!

  • Thursday's update

Thu 24 Sep 2015 Karen Cartwright

The sun shone on Swanage again today and the group enjoyed a walk around the town meeting all sorts of people  - from old ladies to Vikings -  so that they could learn about the history of Swanage.  They enjoyed lunch on the beach and had time to build castles, dig holes and paddle in the sea.  In the afternoon they went crabbing, catching about 8 really big ones.  They have a final session of swimming and then a camp fire left to enjoy tonight before heading back to school in the morning.

Home journey was very exciting today.  We went to Sedgehill in the morning and worked in the music department.  We sang into microphones and listened to some of their talented singers.  We then worked on the computer to produce a backing track.  Mrs Lawson is hoping to use it for dance!  We then played football with some of the sixth form.  We learnt some key skills and then finished with a penalty shoot out!  The afternoon was spent writing thank you letters to Sedgehill and helping out with the infants.

  • Wednesday update from school journey

Wed 23 Sep 2015 Karen Cartwright

Today the explorers set off on their long journey to Corfe castle.  Luckily the weather was sunny and warm so everyone enjoyed the walk.  They were very excited to be getting a steam train back to the centre! The teachers reported that everyone is eating brilliantly, even those who thought they were fussy before they went!  They are also all being excellent sleepers and the majority were fast asleep by 10 o'clock last night, allowing everyone time to get the sleep they needed!  They are looking forward to another session in the pool before dinner and then an ABC quiz challenge in the playground this evening.

Home journey again was also exciting; the group enjoyed a trip to the science museum to watch a film in 3D at the IMAX cinema as well as free time in the Launchpad.

More exciting adventures to follow tomorrow!

  • Tuesday's school and home journey news!

Tue 22 Sep 2015 Karen Cartwright

After a good night's sleep our adventurers arose bright an early for another action packed day.  Today it was time for a cliff walk to Studland and a visit to the beach.  Thankfully the weather in Swanage was considerably better than the weather in Bellingham!  Everyone has enjoyed paddling in the sea, many ice creams have been eaten and many children half buried in the sand!  They are looking forward to a tasty meal and a running around activity on site this evening before getting some well earned sleep!

Home journey has also been exciting today.  The children have created 3d sculptures using a variety of materials and are enjoying showing them off!

  • School Journey upate

Mon 21 Sep 2015 Karen Crtwright

39 intrepid adventurers and 5 brave teachers set off this morning for their week in Swanage.  They all arrived safely at about 2pm and were about to settle into their rooms before heading out to explore the beach!  All parents were texted to reassure them that the children had arrived.  If you didn't receive a text please check that the office have your most up to date number!

Home journey have also had an exciting day.  They took apart computers this morning and then had to put them back together!
