Year 5 School Councillors visit the Mayor!
Fri 23 Feb 2018On Friday 23rd February, four of the Year 5 school councillors and Miss Cartwright went to Lewisham Town Hall in Catford to meet the Mayor of Lewisham, Steve Bullock and the young Mayor of Lewisham Laurelle Henry. We found out some facts about politics in Lewisham, so we know there are 54 councillors and 53 of them are Labour councillors. We also learnt that the three maces's that are used in ceremonial events are worth a total of over £200,000! We were able to ask the Mayor some questions and he made a point of saying that we asked some of the most difficult questions of the day! We were very impressed with the young mayor and her team and hope that before long we will be seeing former Elfrida pupils in politics. -

Eagle Heights Visit
Wed 24 Jan 2018On Wednesday 24th January we were lucky enough to have a visitor from Eagle Heights come to school. We had two assemblies so that everyone could get into the hall and Alan showed us 4 different birds. He told us lots of interesting facts about birds of prey and we learnt new language like 'diurnal' which means things that are awake in the day (like humans.)
They flew over our heads (some of them very close) and we watched them eating too. Lots of children had their photos taken with the bird on their hands, these will come home to parents shortly.

Elf day
Mon 18 Dec 2017On Monday 18th December we held our annual Elf day! This is a great chance for children to work with different teachers completing a range of exciting and creative tasks. There was biscuit decorating, painting, card making, snowflake making, elf coding, science experiments, treasure hunts and much much more. The children moved around in their class groups and visited at least 3 different teachers. (Even more if you were in Years 4-6!) A big thank you to all of the children for getting involved, the parents for supplying many an elf costume and the staff for planning and organising such a great range of activities today. -
Year 1, Reception and Nursery Nativity
Thu 14 Dec 2017It always feel like the festive season has begun when the youngest children in the school perform the Nativity for everyone. This year was no different and the hall was filled with the sound of children's singing and laughter. The Year 1 children with the acting parts used huge voices which meant we could hear every word. Cesar had the loudest voice as he proclaimed "I am the boss of you!"
A big thank you to the children for performing, the parents for finding costumes and all the staff for pulling together a truly amazing show.

Festival of lights
Thu 14 Dec 2017Year 4 and 5 treated us to an amazing show about light this year. They have looked at lots of festivals that happen at this time of year all with a central theme of light. They talked to us about Diwali, Wesak, Eid, Hanukkah and Christmas. We learnt the story of Rama and Sita, a song about a dreidel and even a song in Hebrew. The show incorporated a range of beautiful songs including a Christmas rap that got everyone clapping along and finished with a rendition of I wish it could be Christmas every day.
A big thank you to the staff and the children for all of their hard work putting this together.

The Globe Players come to Elfrida
Mon 11 Dec 2017On Monday 11th December we welcomed The Globe Players to school to put on a performance of Sleeping Beauty for children from Nursery to Year 2. The children had a fantastic time, joining in with the story, helping the actors find each other and enjoying the hilarity! With cries of "He's behind you!" we felt that the festive season had really begun! Thank you to all of the parents and carers who have bought nativity play tickets for £1 this year, this along with money raised from cauliflower cards, helped us to provide this opportunity for the children.
