More maths and Fairtrade news!
Thu 20 Oct 2016We have been really enjoying Math and Fairtrade week. Yesterday we had a lovely Fairtrade chocolate cake for diner which was really scrumptious!
Today KS1 and Reception have been treasure hunting in the playground. First they had to look for produce that was hidden around the playground and then they had to search for the coins they needed to pay for each item. There was lots of running around, searching and counting going on. Fantastic!
KS2 took part in a Fairtrade quiz in the hall. Everyone brought a whiteboard so that they could all join in with showing answers and the classes competed against others in their year group.
Don't forget to come to the Fairtrade cafe in the hall tomorrow for a drink and some cake. Everything 50p!

Maths and Fairtrade Week
Mon 17 Oct 2016Maths and Fairtrade week has begun really well. The Fairtrade shop was a great event, with children arriving to complete different challenges and the Year 6's acting as shopkeepers. It was tricky to find 2 items that totaled exactly £5.20, but the Year 3's were on it!
Years 2 and 4 got together for a great session of game playing in the hall as well, sharing their maths skills and knowledge with others. The teachers joined in too and although it was very noisy, it was very exciting and lots of maths was being practised.
We are looking forward to more excitement as the week continues.
Don't forget that Wednesday is the deadline for any competition entries, so get them in soon!

Harvest Festival
Fri 14 Oct 2016On Friday October 14th, we held our annual Harvest Festival celebrations in the hall.
It was a great occasion and all the children participated brilliantly.
The festivities began with the children from Nursery and Reception singing us songs about autumn leaves and combine harvesters including a solo performance from Ruby who is only 4. Year 1 continued with a dramatic retelling of The Little Red Hen, followed by the Year 2 children sharing their research about farm animals. As ever we included whole phase singing and sang the Harvest Samba and Cauliflowers Fluffy.
The fun continued with KS2 taking to the stage. We heard all about where our food comes from, including a wonderful potato song from year 3 and we learnt about the history of harvest from Year 4. Year 5 shared harvest poems and we found out what harvest meant to some of the children in Year 6. Again the children sang with gusto, joining in with the harvest samba and cauliflowers fluffy!
Thanks to all of the parents and carers who came.
Thank you as well to everyone who donated food. The collection was enormous and your generosity was amazing. Next week Miss Cartwright and some of the children will be taking the food to the local food bank, to help those less fortunate than us.

More Home Journey News!
Thu 22 Sep 2016What an exciting day our home journey group had today. They went on the Emirates cable car ride and on to the Nissan innovation experience in the 02. If this wasn't exciting enough they almost saw Prince William in the Shard as they walked back through the station. Sadly a lot of much taller people obscured their view, but it was a close thing!!
Tomorrow they plan to spend the day in a chill out mode, watching films in pyjamas. After this week's excitement, a calm day is certainly called for!

School Journey Day 4
Thu 22 Sep 2016What a beautiful day to spend at the seaside! It was so clear that even the Isle of Wight was visible.
Our adventurers have been getting busy learning about the history of Swanage from some rather strange looking characters and Mr Potts and Miss Fitch look like they are being stalked by some ducks!
Crabbing seemed to be a huge success, with a number of the eight legged wonders ending up in buckets (don't worry they were all returned safely to the water later!).
Exhausted travellers are now looking forward to the final excitement of the camp fire.

Year 6 Home Journey
Wed 21 Sep 2016Although not all of Year 6 have gone to Swanage, the ones who have stayed at school have also been experiencing a whole heap of exciting activities to rival their travelling friends!
They have been on a fact finding mission in the science museum, completed craft and ipad challenges and today they created their own pizzas at Pizza Express. Imagine all that - and its only Wednesday!

School Journey Day 3

Look out for the information about Elfrida that our adventurers found....
Happy birthday Favour - we hope you are enjoying your day!!

School Journey Day 2
Tue 20 Sep 2016Everyone slept well on their first night and were up bright an early for a day's walk to Studland. Only one lunch was lost and luckily Miss Fitch found it! (There was nearly one very hungry Lexie!!)
The cliffs were amazing, the views spectacular and the space for running was immense!
Everyone visited the beach again and there was time for some sand sculpting as well.
They are claiming they are not yet tired, but they are fooling no one! With more activities to go this evening they will need to find their energy reserves!!
Continue to look on the Year 6 class pages for more updates.

School Journey Day 1
Mon 19 Sep 2016After a slightly longer journey than expected due to some traffic issues, all 28 children and all 3 adults have arrived safely to the Alnatt centre in Swanage.
Lunch on the journey proved to be a respite from hours of driving and the children enjoyed a picnic which was almost in the sun!
After dumping their bags in their rooms, they immediately set off for the beach. It was the first time for some of them and they hugely enjoyed themselves.

Summer Fair
Fri 15 Jul 2016On July 15th we held our annual summer fair. A great time was had by all who came. Not only did we have a bouncy castle, but we also had a bouncy assault course, both of which were very popular! We had farm animals from Surrey Docks farm, two DJs, a barbecue, face painting, tombolas, games, lucky dips as well as many more exciting things for both adults and children. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the school. Well done to Francis in Year 2, who won the I-pad in the raffle! The number of balloons in the car was a staggering 154 and the winner will be contacted shortly.
A huge thank you to Iyare, Clare and Michelle who organised the whole event. We are desperate for more parents to support the PTA as this was a huge job for so few people. Please contact the school office if you would like to join our very dedicated PTA team.
