Elfrida Primary School

Success for today; prepared for tomorrow. Nothing is beyond our reach.

Creekside Discovery Centre - children investigated rivers at low tide through a lively mix of science, geography, and history. They handled real artefacts from a shipyard, railway, slaughterhouse, pottery works and a blacksmiths’ forge, uncovering stories from the Thames’ industrial past. This visit made a great link to our Victorians topic with the sewage pumping station (built during the Victorian era) which overlooked the creek!

Activities included using fishing nets to explore the river’s living world, spotting all sorts of creatures. A highlight was the race between Astro and Oreo to measure river speed. The children also loved wading into the creek, giggling as mud squelched under their fancy waders and water splashed against their feet. A huge thank you to the wonderful parent volunteers who helped make this muddy, splashy adventure so memorable. Your support made all the difference!
