Year 5 spent today totally immersed in Ancient Greek culture! The day commenced with the children solving the Greek mathematician Archimedes’s Stomachion Puzzle. After that, they moved onto a fact-filled Greek quiz which covered a range of information - for example city-states, the introduction of democracy, Greek gods and the Olympic Games. This led to playing a strategic Greek board game called Petteia which is very similar to draughts. The children then moved to the playground to re-enact the Greek myth Jason and the Golden Fleece! The afternoon was spent learning about Greek warfare - which included a hoplite soldier wearing authentic armour! Finally, the day ended with a mini Olympic Games between the two classes!
