Science Week - What an exciting day we had at the Science workshop today, part of our fabulous Elfrida Science Week! Delivered by the Mother Nature Science, the children dove into the wonders of Earth’s incredible layers and the fascinating movement of tectonic plates. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the explosive ‘elephant toothpaste’ volcano eruption experiment, where each child got to create their very own ‘mini volcano’ and witness the thrilling chemical reaction erupt. Lots of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ filled the room as they experienced the sheer power of science firsthand. What a fantastic way to spark curiosity and ignite a love for learning!
Maths - We used pentominoes to help us visualise the area of different shapes.
Vue Bromley Cinema - Beech Class had a wonderful time experiencing the animated adaptation of the beloved story, "Kensuke's Kingdom," written by Michael Morpurgo. As many of the children enjoyed reading this book during the Autumn term, it was a delight to see their reactions as they watched the film unfold on screen. The movie evoked a range of emotions, and some even found it to be a tear jerker! While several children expressed their appreciation for the movie's vibrant visuals and character portrayals, others preferred the depth of the book version. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing parent volunteers who accompanied the children today and made this a memorable experience for all!
Book Week - We had an amazing writing workshop with the talented children’s author and illustrator, Allison Parkinson. The children had so much fun getting hands-on with some interesting objects that sparked Allison’s imagination and inspired her adventurous tales. It was such a fun way for them to see how stories come to life and even get creative with their own storytelling. We can’t wait to see how this experience fuels their love for reading and storytelling!
Book Week - Global Tales of Nature - We had an amazing time joining Michael Rosen, Sandra Agard, Emily Grazebrook, and Allen Fatimaharan as they shared captivating origin tales about mountains, forests, and skies. The stories took us on a global adventure, connecting us to nature in such a fun way! Plus, we had the chance to draw along with the talented illustrator Allen Fatimaharan, which added a creative twist to our storytelling session.
Science - We investigated and described the relationship between the amount of friction and the rate of deceleration.
Science - How do different surfaces affect the stopping distance of a toy car?
Science - Does mass affect friction? We used a force meter to measure and investigate how different surfaces and mass affect friction.
English - We recreated the arrival of a new person on ‘The Island’ as a still image in order to show the feelings of different characters in the story.
Creekside Discovery Centre - Investigating rivers at low tide (science, geography and history focus).
Show Racism the Red Card - Wear Red Day 2024
Carbon Monoxide Workshop - Learning about the dangers of Carbon Monoxide through drama activities. Children explored the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and discussed effective strategies to protect themselves and their homes from this hidden danger.
