  • Choir perform at St Dunstan's church

    Thu 20 Dec 2018

Last night - Wednesday 19th December - the King Alfred Federation choir performed to a packed St Dunstan's church.  They performed alongside Lewisham schools brass band and concert band and were truly amazing.

The children sang three songs by themselves and then led the congregation, supported by the concert band, in renditions of Good King Wenceslas, Deck the Halls and We wish you a Merry Christmas.

The Mayor of Lewisham spoke to Ms Newton after the event to say that "The children were amazing!".  (To which Ms Newton replied "I know!")

The choir are to be renamed The Bellingham Children's choir and are planning to perform at Catford Broadway next term and hopefully The Royal Festival Hall at some time in the future.  If you would like to join, look out for the clubs letter coming out at the start of next term.  Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 3.30-4.30 in the community centre.

There were many great elf costumes on display from both children and staff and an amazing array of Christmas jumpers too.   What a great day

  • Year 4/5 Christmas Concert

    Thu 13 Dec 2018

On Thursday 13th December we were treated to a wonderful concert form the Year 4 and 5 children.  We heard amazing singing and learnt facts about Christmas in other countries, from Ghana to Thailand, via Spain and Iceland.  We also learnt about the WW1 Christmas truce.

One highlight was a very effective rendition of the 12 days of Christmas with voices ringing out across the hall.

A big thank you to the children for all of their hard work in learning lines and songs, the staff for organising such a great event and the parents and carers who came along to support it.

  • Reception and Year 1 Nativity

    Tue 11 Dec 2018

Today, our youngest children treated us to a wonderful rendition of the Nativity entitled "The Angel Express".

The children used huge voices so that they could be heard, the singing raised the roof and the performance was truly memorable.

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who helped children practise songs, learn lines and find costumes.  Thanks as well to the dedicated staff team who have been working hard this term to put this show together.

  • Remembering Jai Sewell

    Mon 10 Dec 2018

    REMEMBERING JAI SEWELL

On 2nd November we heard about the tragic and senseless murder of one of our ex-pupils, Jai Hughes-Sewell. It has been a difficult time for many of our staff and families who had the fondest of memories of Jai and it has quite clearly affected the whole community. I would like to personally thank all of you for the compassion, kindness and support that you have shown for each other, our school and Jai’s family during this sad time.

This week, on Thursday 13th December Jai’s funeral will take place and it will be attended by many of our staff and parents. If you are planning to take your child to the funeral we ask that you inform the school and our secondary school colleagues have asked that you do the same for your older children if they are attending.

We have spoken to staff, parents and children and to mark  this day and to celebrate Jai’s short but wonderfully bright life we would like to have an own clothes day in his honour at Athelney and Elfrida Primary Schools. We have been informed by his little brother, who attends Athelney, that Jai loved the colour GREEN so we would like all of our community to dress in green for Jai-

‘Glorious Green for a Great Guy!’

Every child may wear something green- even if it’s a hat or a hairband to show one of our values of RESPECT for our COMMUNITY. We will also be taking contributions on the day to assist the family with funeral costs etc. There will be buckets on the gate and in the school office or you can of course add to the collection in the school office.

I would like to personally thank you all for your shared love for one of our children. The strength of the community in the last six weeks have made me realise how fortunate we are to have each other, our families and hope, hope for a better future because every life matters, Jai matters.

Thank you for your cooperation, compassion and understanding in this matter.
