Elfrida Primary School

Success for today; prepared for tomorrow. Nothing is beyond our reach.

Cypress - Year 4

Welcome to Year 4 Cypress Class. Let's have a great year!

We had to work together in collaboration to complete a team stacking challenge. During our first attempt we could talk to each other but in the second attempt we could not, we predicted which attempt we thought would be more efficient.

We worked in teams of 4 to complete the challenge.

As one of our 'time' challenges for Science week, we completed a speed stacking challenge. We predicted how long we thought it would take us and worked with a partner to time or complete the challenge.

We had so much fun!laugh

Science Week - Time

The theme for British Science Week this year is 'Time'.

We started off Science week by playing a word association game - recalling as a class the different things we think of when we hear the word 'time'.

Our cricket skills are continuing to progress with the help of Coach Dan. Thankfully, the better weather means that have been able to do cricket lessons outside.

Art Week Display

We created artwork and wrote poems during Art Week.

During Art Week, Year Four looked at the artist, Georgia O’Keeffe. She was a famous American female artist, well known for painting flowers, skyscrapers and landscapes.

Cypress class focused on her painting, ‘Ladder to the Moon’. Georgia O’Keeffe had a ladder by her house and she would go on the roof to look at the stars.

We created our own ‘Ladder to the Moon’ paintings inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s. We included ourselves reaching for the moon. We discussed what it means to reach for the stars or moon - it is all about trying to achieve your dreams or goals.

We wrote poems about our personal goals and dreams - what could happen if we just reach for the moon…

Art Week

Some of us enjoyed describing our focus picture for Art Week to our partners, while the rest of us imagined what the picture looked like.

Maths - Perimeter

We know that the perimeter is the distance around the edge.

We learned about perimeter by doing lots of practical activities.

In Year 4, we are so lucky that we get to do cricket in PE this term with specialist coaches. We had a great first lesson with Coach Dan - it was a lot of fun!

Pyjama Day - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Watch Party

Throughout the Autumn term, we have been studying the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We loved watching the film after reading the book and making comparisons.

To make it even more fun, we got to come in in our pyjamas and had tasty snacks when watching the film.

It was so much fun! laugh

One of the Elf Day activities was a STEM Challenge with Elf Burton. We had to build different winter/Christmas related objects using gum drops and toothpicks. It was great fun! smiley

During the Autumn 2 half-term, we have enjoyed Researching, Designing, Creating and Evaluating chocolate bars and their packaging, following the DT cycle.

Our chocolate bar packaging looked professional and the bars tasted delicious! It definitely met the design brief to make a chocolate bar and packaging that would make Willy Wonka proud!

Christmas Concert

The Year 4 and 5 Christmas concert was a success!

We loved learning the songs so it was great to finally perform them!

We enjoyed going on a trip to watch the film 'Coming to England'. It was all about Baroness Floella Benjamin's childhood and the book she wrote about it with the same name.

She spoke about her life and even sung a song! It was inspiring and very moving. It encouraged us to thinks about others and be kind!
