Reception Virtual Tour

You can use the video above to watch with your child before they start in Reception at Elfrida. You can see the classrooms, outdoor area, dining hall and hear from some of the current Reception children themselves! It can be used as a good opportunity to become familiar with the environment and as a starting point to speak to your child about coming to a new class and a new school.

                          The Early Years Curriculum

Within the Early Years, here at Elfrida we want the children to be happy, engaged, confident, independent, curious, resilient and creative learners!

The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and they are encouraged to explore their own interests and take an independent approach to their development within the 7 areas of learning. They learn through play based activities alongside short directed teaching activities and group work.

The adults working with the children are frequently engaging in high quality interactions and constantly observe and assess each child to build up an individual profile of learning.

The outdoor area is just as important as the indoor area and the children have access to it on a daily basis, whatever the weather!

Baseline Assessment

All children who enter Reception are required to complete a baseline assessment.

We will send more information home to parents regarding the Baseline Assessment nearer to the time of the children completing it.

 Our Day

The gates open at 8.45am, and all children are expected to be in school by 9am.

Children are met by their teacher or member of support staff and will be encouraged to come into class by themselves, saying goodbye to their adult.

The day consists of a range of activities such as, phonics maths, literacy and child initiated learning indoors and outdoors.

Lunchtime for Reception is from 12pm-1.00pm and this will be in the dinner hall.

Reception also have PE in the main hall on certain days.

Our day finishes at 3.15pm Monday to Thursday and 2.15pm on a Friday.
